Dr. Morris is a homegrown Salina product. He attended Grace Stewart Elementary, South Middle School and South High School. Throughout, he was active in sports and church activities.

After graduating from high school, Dr. Morris earned his BA from William Penn University in Iowa while also playing football. Immediately after his undergraduate studies he moves to Los Angeles and attended the Rosemead School of Psychology at Biola University. He earned both his MA and PhD in Clinical Psychology from Biola while receiving additional training at the Los Angeles County-University of Southern California Medical Center. Then, Dr. Morris completed his internship and post-doctoral training at Community Reach Center in Denver, CO. Although he thoroughly enjoyed his experiences in Los Angeles and Denver he returned home in 2006 to work for Salina Regional Health Center (SRHC). Because Dr. Morris cherishes Salina and Midwestern values he agreed to be interviewed for a series produced by the State of Kansas called Proud Kansans.

Dr. Morris worked full-time for SRHC for nearly 15 years. During this time, he saw therapy and testing patients at Veridian Behavioral Health. In 2013, he founded a nationally accredited doctoral psychology internship that has attracted high-quality future psychologists to the area. Several of these psychologists have made Salina their home after their formal training was complete (including Dr. Warbinton). Dr. Morris continues to act as the Director of the SRHC Psychology Internship.

Dr. Morris works with all ages, but his niche includes working with children, teens, and adults with long-standing problems. His clinical therapy style emphasizes the patient’s growth process and inherent drive towards health. He believes that good therapy is not merely reducing symptoms but helping the patient experience the “zest” of life. In other words, the main goal of therapy should be to help people thrive not just survive. Whether dealing with individuals, couples, families or groups, he integrates clinically effective treatment with a respectful, compassionate relational style.

In addition to psychotherapy, Dr. Morris conducts psychological testing to help other mental health practitioners or physicians determine the exact nature of a person’s psychological makeup. He has done extensive training in the Rorschach Inkblot method and other aspects of personality testing. He has created a online site to help further training in the Rorschach as well: The Blot Spot. He is actively involved in the Society for Personality Assessment.

To relax, Dr. Morris enjoys playing or watching sports, cooking, traveling, and hanging out with his family and friends. He is also involved in teaching an adult Sunday school class at his church.
